Ammunition performance cannot be judged by appearance alone. Every production round must ultimately prove itself where it matters, in controlled live-fire and ballistic testing.
In this Hughes Precision test video, our .380 ACP ammunition is put through two distinct evaluations.
First, 14 rounds are fired through a handgun to observe real-world functional performance. The exercise allows the test team to evaluate essential factors such as ignition, cycling and overall compatibility under controlled firing conditions.
The test then moves from the firing line to the ballistic laboratory, turning Every Shot into Measurable Data
Five additional rounds are fired through an instrumented ballistic testing system. Rather than relying on visual impressions, the equipment measures the velocity of every round and records the variation across the test string.
Across the five-round ballistic sample, the recorded velocities remained within a relatively narrow window. This kind of testing helps us study consistency from round to round and identify variations that may not be visible during ordinary live firing.
Why Consistency Matters
A cartridge is a precisely engineered system. Its case, primer, propellant and projectile must function together within tightly controlled parameters.
Live-fire evaluation provides evidence of functional performance. Instrumented ballistic testing adds objective, shot-by-shot data. Together, they provide a more complete picture of how the ammunition performs.
Testing Is Part of the Manufacturing Process
The objective is straightforward: manufacture carefully, test methodically and use the results to support continuous process control.
